Can I keep my current dentist?

One of the most commonly asked questions we receive here at the Dental Insurance Shop is "Can I keep my current dentist?". Many people out there have been going to their same dentist for 10, 20, even 30 years. Because of this many people do not want to switch dentists that they already have a relationship with, they trust that dentist to do good dental work, and generally know exactly what each service costs.

Here at the Dental Insurance Shop we sell two different types of plans. We have Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) and Indemnity plans. PPO plans have a network of dentists that you need to utilize in order to receive the best benefits the plan offers. You will almost always receive the highest coverage with a lower cost going with a PPO plan because in order for the dental office to be in the network they have to come to an agreement on a fee schedule with the dental insurance company, meaning the cost of services would be lower than if you were to go completely uninsured.

Indemnity plans are a little different in that they do not have any networks - you can use any dentist you want to. Indemnity plans are generally a little more expensive monthly and the coverage is usually a little less than their PPO counterparts, however if your dentist is not in a large PPO network or if you live in a very rural area that just does not have a PPO network, indemnity plans are a great option to receive savings.
